TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language is a test set to measure the English language ability of the test-taker and is required by universities as part of the admission process. Fundamentally, TOEFL is attempted by those who want to study abroad.TOEFL is accepted by many universities all across the world and is the Trademark of the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

 

ETS is a welfare association with over 60 years of involvement and devoted to educational measurement and research, basically through testing. Its main objective is to provide fair, valid and reliable assessments.

 

TOEFL exams contain four sections

 

1. Reading

 

2. Listening

 

3. Speaking

 

4. Writing

 

     1. Reading – (60-80 minutes)

 

     2. Listening – (60-90 minutes)

 

     3. Speaking – (20 minutes)

 

     4. Writing – (50 minutes)

 

The reading section consists of 4-5 passages, approximately 800 words per passage, each Containing about 35-56 questions.

 

Note that when seeking to apply to universities in the US and Canada, TOEFL is most recommended since it is basically designed with a Northern American English structure and is oftenly accepted anywhere in the world, while IELTS is majorly recommended when seeking to apply to universities in the UK and Australia.

 

Reading – (60-80 minutes) 

The reading section consists of 4-5 passages, approximately 800 words per passage, each Containing about 35-56 questions.

 

Listening – (60-90 minutes)

Here students need to Listen to lectures, engage in classroom discussions and conversations and then answer questions. This section consists of about 34-51 questions.

 

Speaking – (20 minutes)

After a 10-minute break, candidates then must speak on a familiar topic based on reading and listening tasks.

 

Writing – (50 minutes)

Here candidates are given two tasks in which they are expected to respond in writing based on reading and listening.

 

Note that when seeking to apply to universities in the US and Canada, TOEFL is highly recommended since it is basically designed with a Northern American English structure and is generally accepted anywhere in the world, while IELTS is highly recommended when seeking to apply to universities in the UK and Australia.
